This has been an incredibly strange week for me . A week ago , I was sitting in my favourite chair at household with my MacBook Pro , running Mac OS X Tiger ; today , I ’m sitting in the same chair with the same computer , but I ’m using Windows XP Pro . It ’s strange how thing exploit out sometimes . I was connive when my colleague Rob Griffiths posted his experience on catch Windows XP to boot on Apple ’s Intel - based Macs using a third - party hack . However , that did n’t intrigue me enough to stomach the pain Rob run through to run Windows natively on his Mac miniskirt . My MacBook Pro remained an OS go - only kind of car . Still , that interest in run Windows on an Intel - base Mac incite me to look into alternative to Microsoft ’s practical microcomputer . What I found wasQemuX , an Intel - native Mac OS go app that allows you to setup virtual auto that will run Windows on your Mac . I ’m used to test out practical PC and make love how slow emulation software can be , so my expectations were n’t eminent for QemuX. Still , the program impressed me — it was a rakish little app ( though it ’s heavy to equate how it performed against Virtual PC since the program consort on unlike auto ) . After installing , re - installing and testing more times that I deal to count , I come to the same conclusion I always reach — Windows emulation is just too dull for me to nark with it Then Apple dropped the dud — a way for Mac users to dual - iron heel their Intel Macs . Thisgot my attention — and the attention of most people in the electronic computer world . Imagine the possibleness here — the ability to just natively boot Windows whenever you call for it . That will carry through a lot of people quite a morsel of money , admit me . I have a PC at home , mostly for my 10 - year - old Word to play games on . But I use it every once in a while to trip up up on what ’s happening in the Windows world . How many people are like me and have a Mac and Windows PC at home ? How many would buy just one simple machine if they could boot both operating systems ? How many companies would buy Apple hardware for this feature ? I immediately put in Boot Camp and started instal , re - installing and testing dissimilar interlingual rendition of Windows . ( See a pattern here ? ) I even expire against Apple ’s system requirements and installed Windows XP SP1 . Apple say you call for SP2 , and for undecomposed reason — SP1 did n’t exploit out so well so do n’t inconvenience oneself trying that yourself . After doing this about eight time with dissimilar Windows configurations , Boot Camp eventually give up ; when I tried to partition the drive , the program reported that there were files that could not be moved . so as to bushel this problem , I would have to backup my voiceless drive and reinstall Mac OS X. I do n’t blame Boot Camp for this . Even though it is a genus Beta , I abused the programme and grow what I merit . Still , it was fun . So , now what do I do ? I have an install of Tiger that I can no foresighted divider — since I was in an adventurous mood , I backed up my files and format the drive . When I restarted , I did n’t even employ my Tiger DVD ; I just boot from the Windows XP and did a fresh install . In the last seven days , I run from : using Mac OS X Tiger solely ; Tiger and practical PC ; Tiger , practical microcomputer , and QemuX ; Tiger , Boot Camp , and many different versions and setup of Windows ; Tiger , Boot Camp , and Windows XP Pro ; and Windows XP Pro — all on my MacBook Pro . My wife need me why I would want to put Windows on my MacBook . I told her that this is what I do — I experiment with things and then write about it . Her reaction , as she face at my MacBook move Windows XP : “ You have taken the soul out of that computer . ” This weekend , I plan to arrange my MacBook ’s hard movement again and install Mac OS X Tiger and Boot Camp with Windows XP . I ’ll have my Mac OS back , my computer will get its mortal , and my wife just might talk to me again .
