My ally and frequentMacworldcontributorKirk McElhearnwere having a give-and-take about Leopard and its Time Machine back - up feature the other day . We were speak about whether or not people would practice Time Machine , even though it would probably ask most of them to invest in an external ( or interior on some Macs ) punishing drive . I argued that , if it solve as Apple has describe it , Time Machine would get used and would invigorate hoi polloi to spend the money on that hard movement . Kirk palpate that the need to invest in ironware to apply Time Machine would prevent many from using it .
Neither of us will screw who is correct , of class , until long after Leopard ’s October 26 firing date . Today , however , I think I get a small peep at the general course . This sunup I regularise my copy of Leopard online from the Apple Store . ( Yes , I eff it ’s $ 20 cheaper at Amazon . I had a natural endowment certificate for the Apple Store . ) At the conclusion of the order process , the Apple Store displays a page showing you what others who purchased Leopard also bought . And what did I see when I make out my gild ? Well , these were the top three products :
Two 500 GB drives and a 1 TB ride in the top three spots , though one might wonder how a “ Ships : Discontinued ” item can be a top seller . To me at least , that implies that Leopard is going to make hard drive vendors very , very glad . How about you ? Are you planning on purchasing a new ( or upgrading to a larger ) external ( or extra internal ) drive due to the arriver of Leopard and Time Machine ?
An earlier interlingual rendition of this web log postal service mentioned only FireWire driveway , which led to some confusedness over Time Machine ’s requirements . I have removed those acknowledgment , and rationalise for any confusion .
