The first thing you ’ll detect when calculate at the SDM - HS95P / S is its attractive , hinge design that effortlessly slant forward and feebleminded . The 2d thing you ’ll notice is the shiny , bright image this admonisher can expose at a 1,280 - by-1,024 - pixel resolution . The SDM - HS95P / S features XBRIGHT engineering — a clear finish that blocks less light than typical anti - glare screens — so colors seem to really come out . Dark country appear full-bodied , giving persona more deepness than most LCD displays . ( The S indicates the silvern colour , the fashion model we reviewed , but it also comes in black , with a /B designation . Specs for both are indistinguishable . )
Straight out of the box , the display ’s colour were pleasing , but a bit on the blue side . Once graduate , the grey became more neutral . Though touted as a welfare of XBRIGHT , the HS95P / S ’ viewing angle was not as good as some other display we ’ve ascertain , but it is more than acceptable . Horizontally , it begins to lose contrast at about 45 degree off center , so unless you regularly have two or three people herd around your exhibit , this should n’t be an event .
When staring very nearly at the display ( with my nose almost tint the display — not recommended ) I noticed that the case-by-case columns of picture element were a little more seeable than in other display , creating a faint gridiron design on some lighter domain of the concealment and constitute text look a little jaggy . But I ’m being picky . Sony says because XBRIGHT monitor do n’t have a dispersion bed across the screen , panel characteristics are clear to the eye . This was less noticeable in its smaller sibling , the 17 - inch SDM - HS75P.
Macworld’s buying advice
Although this display miss some of the extra features found on other displays I ’ve seen ( like a USB hub , speaker system , or the ability to pivot ) , the HS95P / S is a vivid and shiny , well designed , and good performing display .
