In OS X 10.4 , the Open and Save ( As ) dialogue boxes have a handy Spotlight hunting corner . you could practice this to quickly feel an existing file or folder on your system , for either opening move or for saving into . ( If you ca n’t see the Spotlight search box seat in the Save , click the triangular image next to the filename line in the Save and Save As dialogs ) . However , there ’s an ostensible oversight , at least in the Save / Save As dialogs : there ’s no apparent way to see the track to the folders the Spotlight find . So if you ’ve get 10 folders named “ surplus labor Indian file ” ( you keep one in each of your top - level projection folder ) , you ’d have no idea which one is the one you really want to use .
The good news is that there is a workaround . It ’s not the most elegant result in the creation , but it does work . In the Save As dialogue , make trusted you ’re using tower view mode by clicking on the column icon ( it look just to the left of the way drop - down ) . Next , penetrate in the Spotlight search box and enter your search term . After you have some seeable resolution , get through on any folder in the tilt to choose it , then get across the lean sight mode button ( just to the left of the column view picture you clicked to begin with ) . Notice that the two Testing folders are on two dissimilar drive ( one ’s a remnant from my G5 migration a few month back ) . It ’s a flake of pain to have to toggle back and forth between the views , but some path information is better than no path info .
