Yesterday was an at sea daylight on MacMania V , and that means classes ! Both Dan Frakes and I had busy days , with school term during the break of day and even , follow by the first formal dinner of the journey . I presented a school term on my favorite Mac OS decade Hints in the forenoon , and then Dan and I worked through about 45 interesting and utile applications and utilities during our good afternoon session . That was follow up by another session of the Ingenious Bar , and then a fun talking where four of us ( Janet Hill of Apple , Leo Laporte , Dan and myself ) presented some of our own preferent applications . Throughout the whole day , I was impressed with the attender ’ interest in the topics being discussed . Good questions were demand , and we had some undecomposed conversations on a turn of Mac - refer topics .
After the full twenty-four hours of sessions , it was time for the first formal dinner party of the sail . Working out of a abode billet , putting on a case and tie is n’t something I ’ve done very much of lately , so it was kind of fun for a change of pace . I ’m pretty certain it wo n’t carry over to my household work habit , however !
After 30 time of day of sailing , we arrived ahead of time this morning in Belize City , Belize , for our second Clarence Day of shore excursions . Well , not quite “ in . ” As you’re able to see from the pic below , we did n’t in reality get all that close to Belize City right — I’d imagine that we ’re anchored a couple international mile offshore ( that ’s Belize City seeable in the distance ):
And that pic is about as close to Belize City as my wife I get all daylight . We contract up for a day of scuba diving with theBelize Dive Connection , which entailed an former departure from the ship . The dive boat pick us up around 8:00 a.m. at the ship , and took us on a 20 instant drive over to the dive shop to be fit with gear . From there , it was about a 45 - min ride out to the dive land site turn up at Terneffe Atoll . The weather condition was n’t the corking , either — muddy and cloud-covered when we awoke , and there were legion humble pelting rain shower throughout the domain . uncalled-for to say , the ride out to the dive site wasnotthe smoothest thing I ’ve ever experience .
But once we arrived , we had a great time . The dive skipper and gravy holder work party were experienced and professional , and the two diving land site were incredible . I make along our honest-to-god Canon PowerShot S30 and its subaquatic case , and snapped a whole clustering of pictures during the diving . As a sample of what we see , I put together this small photo gallery of some of the subaqueous beauty . As you may see , despite the rough control surface conditions , visibility below was splendid . ( take note : I ’m a complete unpaid literary hack when it comes to photography in general , and underwater picture taking in particular . I used nothing more than the tv camera and its built - in flash , so you ’ll see that some of the images have a definite blue-blooded tint — if something is at the boundary of the flashing ’s compass , it comes out blueish . ) After two great dives , we reversed course and live another pound ride back to theMS Veendam . But the dish of the dive were well worth the pounding of the boat rides there and back .
Tomorrow we have a relatively muted 24-hour interval , with a visit to Santo Tomas de Castilla , Guatemala during the sidereal day , and then an evening academic session on Mac Horror Stories , which should be a mass of fun . Dan Frakes , Andy Ihnatko , Ted Landau and I will be sharing stories about when our Macs have sound off the bass destruction , and what we did to endeavor to salvage the position .
