Today ’s hint is dead - simple , but I ca n’t observe it documented anywhere — and judging from the response when Imentioned it on Twitter , it ’s something many Safari users are well-chosen to hear about .

Since version 3.0 , Safari has leave , in its History menu , Reopen Last Close Window and Reopen All Windows From Last Session commands . These lineament let you well reopen the last Safari windowpane you closed , and reopen all windows that were launch the last time you quit Safari , severally . Each command also restores any tabs that were loose within those windows .

But what about the exclusive tablet you just accidentally closed ? The one you spread out four hour — or even four days — ago , so it ’s not well-off to encounter in your account ? Inexplicably , Safari has been missing the obvious vis-a-vis those those program line : a way to reopen the last - unopen tablet . I ca n’t enumerate the turn of times I ’ve seen requests for this capability .

It turns out that Safari 5 finally provides just such a characteristic — but it does n’t seem to be document , not even in Apple’sdetailed list of new features and improvements . Thankfully , it ’s bare — even obvious — to use : If you accidentally close up a tablet you did n’t mean to close , just press Command+Z , the Mac ’s stock keyboard shortcut for Undo . The “ disoriented ” tablet is immediately restored . ( you’re able to also use the Undo command in Safari ’s Edit menu , which changes to Undo Closed Tab . )

My preferent part of this raw feature article — besides the fact that it exists , of path — is that it keep track of the last tab you ’ve closed ineachwindow . So compress Command+Z in Window A will restore a unlike tab than pressing the shortcut in Window B.

( chapeau tip to Twitter user@drawarfor pointing out this new feature film . )
