It ’s only been out a light while but the verdict is unanimous : Pundits love the Google Pixel ! Mostly as a tool to sock Apple over the head word .

pen for the very courteous hoi polloi and brand engagers and murder clowns and possum - faced alien children atBusiness Insider , Steve Kovach explains “ How Google stymie Apple . ” ( Tip o ’ the antlers toChris Domico . )

There are so many ways . This is just one .

This hebdomad did n’t look good for Apple .

Doesanyweek ever look good for Apple when you ’re booze the hallucinogen - infused water system that come out of theBusiness Insiderdrinking spring ?

Google ’s new Pixel earpiece launched to positive review …

The Google Pixel Is Too Dumb and Ugly to substitute Your iPhone

… mostly   because of the sound ’s new digital helper called Google Assistant .

Now , the Macalope has n’t used Assistant on the Pixel himself , but he ’s take heed from at least some quarter that it ’s questionable as to whether or not it ’s that much better than Siri , if it ’s better at all . Gizmodo ’s Michael Nunez seems to reckon it ’s good but still says :

… Google ’s AI is too stupid to be meaningfully helpful at this stage .

That sounds extremely embarrassing for Apple .

Kovach tout Assistant ’s superiority over Siri and put up several examples from his review that convert him of this . The affair is , the Macalope threw more or less the same queries ( exchange for position departure ) at Siri on his iPhone SE and they all worked . So where is this supposed reward ?

The horny one for sure is n’t saying Siri ’s perfect or even as authentic as it should be . For his money , he agrees with Nunez :

The decimal point is that as a whole , smartphone helper are n’t overbold enough to be specify feature . They ’re doodad , and Google foolishly decide to make a earphone around one .

Have n’t you heard ? It ’s awe-inspiring . It does those things Siri , uh , apparently also does .

But for now , Google Assistant is clear in the lead …

perchance this is straight , it surely seems to be the conventional wiseness , but Kovach has n’t indicate it to be . Marques Brownlee ’s testingshows that Assistant ’s vantage is in linguistic context awareness but Siri often gives more data ( and gets more contextual clue than the Macalope expect ) . Brownlee give a slight nod to Assistant , but the remainder is not that drastic .

Most significantly , however , AI is n’t the only grounds one buy a smartphone . The iPhone 7 is weewee - resistant , the Pixel is not . The iPhone 7 look like an iPhone 7 while the Pixel looks like an iPhone 6 knock - off . Strangely ( disclosure : not strange at all , completely expected ) , Kovach does not remark privacy concerns anywhere in this piece , maybe because such hand - wringing is the province of only the weak - kneed and those who have something to hide .

Besides , it ’s not like Google ’s going to apply your personal information for anything .

Cough .

We ’d all like to see Siri get good . But Google ’s advantage here is fairly exaggerated .
