I ’m in Las Vegas this week for the annualPMAconference and trade show . I ’ve been here for a few days already , and there ’s one topic that has come up in almost every give-and-take I ’ve had with photographers : Aperture . More specifically , the topic is : “ Where ’s Version 2.0 of Apple ’s icon management and editing app ? ” With the the show starting this forenoon , it seems pretty clear that we wo n’t see anything announced this hebdomad , and the disappointment I ’m hearing is permeant ....

If PMA’08 has any base , it is ‘ point - and - shoot . ’ In the past month — climax with this week ’s show — we’ve had a unquestionable onslaught of summary camera announcements . According to IDC , there were nearly34 million camerassold last year . free-base on the gauze-like number of fresh cameras here at the show , that ’s plain not enough .
