Night 3: Let’s All Do the Hop
ByMichael Gowan
Wednesday night saw a embarrassment of diligence party , a veritable cornucopia of revel and libation . I bring off to make it to three on my way to oblivion .
Before I get into the details , get ’s sit and chat about why these parties are held – what they ’re really about . There ’s this affair known as networking , and it has nothing to do with hubs , routers or autonegotiating RJ-45 jacks . We all deal with each other on a daily base , trying to get the data we need , trying not to give the information everyone really want . We pass mostly by earpiece , but even that grade of contact often ends up as voice mails and due east - chain armor . The industry political party is a chance to place a representative with a cheek and seek to build some variety of more personal relationship .
Or so they say . Seriously , when an eight - piece of music swing lot play in a petite lodge , conversation are relegated to single sentence shouts in which you only hear every third word . It can be fun trying to put meaning to the watchword you find out : when a dubiousness like “ I really like the raw G3s . Do you ? ” sounds like “ I ! … like ! … you ! ” , the pick for incorrect actions are innumerable . In the end , networking is an excuse for free food for thought and strong drink .
Off to the parties then . First stop : the MetaCreation ’s Kai soiree for KPT 5 and PhotoSoap 2.0 . reserve at SFMOMA , San Francisco ’s mod artistry museum , this gamey falutin ’ affair really was a networker ’s dreaming . A twosome of hundred industry insiders and a good deal of press mingled while holding a looking glass of wine and munching on intumescent hors d’ouvres . Kai Krause himself presided over the event , with news cameras wander throughout . I felt so “ in . ”
After a abbreviated sojourn for dinner , I made my path into the chassis territory for GoLive ’s farewell bash . The company , lately purchased by Adobe , settle on a different advance for their venue : a metropolis loft . To spice up the eventide , several drag poof walk the floor , and a sushi chef fed the masses . By the time I arrived , the party had pretty much degenerate into chaos . The wait for a swallow was foresightful enough to make me actually think twice about whether I really wanted one . It was amusing to see a few people from Iowa standing next to a tabby in an evening gown .
Another hop on San Francisco ’s public transit system landed me in the Mission District at SGI ’s Make Out Room political party . While an interesting name for a legal community , it ’s a bit of a misnomer . Sure , bras string up from the antlers on the paries , but so does a bear hide . The swinging set and full open saloon made this my front-runner for the eventide . The most enthralling thing at the party , besides a wager to see if I could tell the conflict between a Ketel One and tonic and a Stoli and pop , was SGI ’s new 1,600 by 1,024 flat panels . I guess these party are n’t just about getting liquored up . They ’re about getting liquored up and searing high - ray images of icing - cover berry into my mentality .
