Apple ’s CEO , Steve Jobs , chatted up the press abide by the society ’s announcement of its telling FY07 Q2 financial results and , in respect to subscription coming to the iTunes Store , had this to say to Reuters :
“ Never say never , but customer do n’t seem to be interested in [ subscriptions ] . The subscription model has failed so far . ”
If I were to dial back the Time Machine I could think Jobs mouthing alike instruction along these job :
“ Never say never , but customers do n’t seem to be concerned in [ buy downloadable video ] . Downloadable TV shows and movies have failed so far . ”
and
“ Never say never , but client do n’t seem to be concerned in [ portable euphony musician ] . Portable MP3 players have failed so far . ”
yield the success of the iPod and the iTunes Store the ready reply to Jobs ’ subscription program line is :
Perhaps that ’s because a subscription theoretical account wo n’t really take off until Apple implement it .
I ’ve said it before and I ’ll say it again . I wish subscription music services . I ’ve had subscriptions from bothYahoo ! MusicandRhapsody . I enjoy the freedom to attract up just about any album I care to listen to and play it while I scrunch at the computer . I also wish being able to research Modern euphony without being hitch by a 30 - 2nd prevue . If a pal and I are iChatting about something nerveless she ’s recently get word , more often than not I can access it in Rhapsody and count in on its merits as it play in the background signal . And thanks to Rogue Amoeba ’s $ 25Airfoil , I can rain buckets that medicine to the two AirPort Express base station in my house , filling my dwelling with Rhapsody ’s radio station or the playlists I ’ve created .
The one major fly in the ointment is that these subscription services do n’t work with my iPod . Sure , I can act them on mySanDisk Sansa e280Rbut doing so requires that I brawl with a service and Windows applications programme that are n’t laid out as intuitively as iTunes and the iTunes Store and that I pay a higher monthly fee ( $ 15 a calendar month ) than the regular Rhapsody Unlimited subscription plan ( $ 12 a month ) . And while I generally like the Sansa actor , it ’s not closely as sleek or easy to navigate as my iPod .
Just easier .
It ’s simply a matter of doing it decent . Can you think of a company more certified than Apple to take on the job ?
