This is a great tip for owners of Macs made since 2016 . These new Macs are neat , but they are missing something longtime Mac users love : the inauguration gong . It used to be when you booted a Mac , you ’d hear a “ bong ! ” to enjoin you that the estimator is up and consort .
Fortunately , you may activate the inauguration chime , and it ’s really wanton to do . You want to accede a bid in the Terminal — don’t concern if you ’ve never used the Terminal before . It may seem intimidating to expend a command - demarcation port , but this is a unforesightful command that anyone can perform .
Launch Terminal , which is located in the Utilities folder . Then , at the prompt , type in the pursuit :
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
reach Return . You ’ll be asked to inscribe your story password . inscribe it and then the command will be execute . Now , when you restart the Mac , you ’ll hear the startup chime .
To flex it off , go back to the Terminal , and go into the following :
sudo nvram StartupMute=%01
