I ca n’t believe it ’s in conclusion here . Friday , June 29th . After months of hype … endless promotional campaigns … lots of medium exposure . The anticipation . The build up . Today , though , it all come to an end . I ’m in parentage now , join about 40 of my closest never - met - before friend . simple hours from now , all the waiting ends , and finally , we get to see it in person ! That ’s right , Ratatouilleopens today , and I ’m extend to be one of the first to see it !
OK , so something else is go on today . Some short thing about iPhone availability .
For those who have read my thoughts on the iPhone , you may be surprised to read that I too am sit in line with the other fold , given my doubtfulness about this gimmick . It turns out that I have n’t really had a modification of warmheartedness — I really want to see an iPhone that ’s opened for third - party development . But , like those enterprising Craigslist “ wait in ocean liner for hire ” folks , I ’m here today for work . member of theMacworldteam , include yours truly , have been direct out to various Apple and AT&T stores to ascertain that we have phones for testing and review — you’re able to scan other hoi polloi ’s history of their in - short letter experience atiPhone Central . It ’s a tough Book of Job , I know , but someone has to do it .
So what ’s it like ? Well , unlike those poor folks in New York City , I ’m posture inside , not out of doors .(I may be screwball , but it ’s nerveless and rainy in Oregon today ; no way I ’m seat outside for six hours ! ) I ’m at the Apple Store in theWashington Square Mall , and we ’ve nonplus a nicely cordoned off area where we can sit and find out the mall traffic without awe of being tread . I arrive around noon , and I ’m 41st in air . So as long as they ’ve got at least 81 phones here at 6:00 p.m. — limit two per customer ! — I should get one .

When I was home backpack for this little adventure , it brought back some really quondam memory . As I backpack the fold up bivouacking chair , the medicine system , the snacks , the umbrella ( in case I had to go to an outside storage ) , the warm clothes , my nous instantly flash back to the mid 1980s and camp out out ( for three days ! ) to get tickets to Bruce Springsteen ’s Born in the USA tour . I do n’t remember much of those three days , beyond endless tedium . However , the fifth row tickets we eventually wound up with were well deserving the effort . This hold , gratefully , will be much shorter , albeit much more expensive .
The mood in the ancestry is surprisingly upbeat , and the Energy Department is gamey . We ’ll see how everyone ’s doing in a few hours , but for now , this is a fun , energetic crowd . An Apple store employee in reality just come out and gave us a daily round of hand clapping , saying “ Thank you all for this ; we love you ! ” That , in turn , got the employee a drive out cheerfulness from the assembled masses — since I arrived 30 minutes ago , we ’ve add up five or so folks to the crowd .
So far , the unspoiled determination I made was to convey the folding camping chair — sitting on cold linoleum for six hours really would n’t be a pleasant experience . I was one of the first in line with a chair , and since I arrived , six the great unwashed have left the crinkle , visited the sporting commodity store , and return with president of their own . Just call me Rob Griffiths , trendsetter .
