OK , in grammatical case it ’s too ahead of time in the morning for your mental capacity to fully comprehend the preceding conviction , that ’s “ Thank you , Senuti ! ” in normal forward - speak English . So what ’s a Senuti , other than iTunes spelled backwards?Senutiis an app program designed to help you move music from an iPod back to your Mac . Typically , of course , medicine only motivate in the diametrical charge . While it ’s potential to make the flow of music a two - way street on your using Terminal and some detached prison term , it ’s a real painfulness . Senuti makes the process as simple as using iTunes .
Senuti has been covered byMacworldbefore ; Dan Frakes wrote about it in early 2005 , and the software won an Eddy awarding as one of the top Mac products of 2005 . in person , though , I ’d never had a need for it , and as such had n’t ever tried it .
At least , not until my recent trip to San Francisco for theWorldwide Developers Conference .
While taking the unretentive hops down from my abode in Portland to the conference in San Francisco , I pulled out my iPod and headphones , quick to patch up back for an minute or so of good music . alas , the iPod had unlike plans . The troubles commence as soon as I pressed gambol . alternatively of music , I take heed my iPod restart — no sound at all , it just instantly rebooted as shortly as I choose a song to play .
After the reboot , I tried again . Same result . All the other functions seemed to work fine , but as soon as I tried to meet music , the iPod would bring up . Sometimes I heard a few seconds of a song , other prison term I heard nothing at all .
Looked at with a long - term perspective , this really did n’t trouble me much — all of my music is on my dwelling motorcar and backed up in a pair of spot . I knew that once I returned home , I could pass over the iPod clear and just reload it , losing nothing more than a fleck of time . In the short - full term , though , I had a self-aggrandising offspring — I was headed to WWDC for five twenty-four hour period , and would apparently have no music at all to aid me through those early - morning sessions ofposting OS X hints .
After checking in and getting the MacBook set up , I first try Disk Utility on the iPod . No go — it felt the magnetic disk was fine and necessitate no repairs . I do n’t have a copy ofDiskWarrioron my MacBook , so I could n’t strain that solution .
Next contain , Senuti . I downloaded the app , link the iPod , launch Senuti , and crossed my fingers . The first try was n’t so in effect — the iPod did n’t show at all . I reset the iPod one more time and tried again — winner ! The iPod now showed and was browseable in the Senuti window .
If you have n’t tried the app , it ’s astonishingly easy to apply . It really feels and solve much like iTunes . You choose songs , albums , artists , playlist ( basically whatever you want ) in the Senuti window , and then drag them onto the “ iTunes ” ledger entry in the Source column . I could n’t just catch everything , as my MacBook only had about 15 GB of free space . But in a relatively short amount of time , I ’d copy about 5 GB worth of euphony onto my MacBook — more than enough to get through the workweek .
When I got back home , I pass on the iPod the old restore discourse . But thanks to Senuti , I at least had background medicine for my WWDC travel .
