Greetings again from the MSVeendam . As I write this , we ’ve just complete our embrasure day in the area of Costa Maya , Mexico . My married woman and I went diving again , and yes , that mean we have more Pisces the Fishes characterisation . However , I ’ll part with you the underwater camera work today ( well , peradventure just one range of a function in the gallery ) , and instead talk about what function on yesterday , last night , and today in general .
Yesterday we were in Santo Tomas de Castillo , Guatemala . The ship dock at a very busy commercial dock , as you’re able to see in the latest figure art gallery . While it was kind of playfulness to view all the frantic dock body process , the Guatemala sorrel is clearly a commercial-grade military operation first , and a cruise ship drop - off percentage point second . After dive on Tuesday , we chose to take it well-fixed in Guatemala , and resolve to just spend the mean solar day relaxing at a local beach resort . Overall , while I had a pleasant afternoon , it was by all odds not the highlight of the misstep . Perhaps I should have known thing might be a flake tough when I spotted this sign after pose off the ship .
( We had select the “ no luch ” — or lunch , for that subject — option . ) The Amatique Bay resort feature a routine of pools and piss slideway , motorcycle and walk track , paddle gravy holder , a eating place , and that staple of all majuscule stamping ground , a “ floating ” bar within one of the pond . They also had some animals on exhibit — a identification number of turtleneck in one , and five common iguana in another ( we also saw several angry iguanas up in the Tree ) . There ’s a exposure of one of the captive iguanas in the verandah .
If it had n’t been 90 degrees with 100 % humidness , we might have had a draw of merriment trying all the unlike out-of-door activities . As it was , we spent the whole morning in the pool , then return to the ship on the first available water cab . Dan Frakes had a much more interesting experience , as he went on a full - day salary increase through the rain timber . Looking back on it , that ’s the pick we probably should have read .
We then vary Guatemala , headed north for the Costa Maya region of Mexico . soon after departure , four speakers — Dan Frakes , Ted Landau , Andy Ihnatko , and myself — pose cruisegoers with our personal great ( worst ? ) mackintosh disaster . From fib of dead hard private road to thinking one car was another to spilling sal soda dad into a miscellany of machines , it was an entertaining 90 minutes of self - vilipend fib relation — yes , even Mac author are stunned users , too ! We even had a couple of attendee - contributed repulsion stories , as well as Andy ’s admittance that he once installed his own , limited translation of Apple bone onto an entire science lab of Apple IIs during his youthful day . All in all , it was a peck of fun .
After the session , it was time for dinner party . And dinner sentence on a ship can be quite entertaining . For the last two nights , we ’ve had entertainment of some variety . We all wore chef ’ hats one night and Dutch hats the next . The remaining pictures shows our napkins arrive for the meal in a rousing song - and - dance bit . I ’ll grant the cruise staff this : they really do work intemperately to make the evening meal an enjoyable experience .
After dinner , it was time to retire to the cabin for the cruise north to Mexico . Which gives me a good excuse to mouth about the towel critters . Every night while we ’re at dinner , the cabin meeter prepare our elbow room for the evening — turn down the bed sheets , set tomorrow ’s travel plan on the desk , etc . But the crowning achievement of this service are the creatures they create from towels . I neglect to take a picture of the first one ( which might have been either an octopus or a ghost ) , but the gallery holds the other three we ’ve encounter — an elephant , a lobster ( scorpion ? ) , and a sting ray . The skills of the gang are indeed many and wide-ranging !
Costa Maya is a most interesting area of Mexico . It ’s largely undiscovered ( hard to typewrite that with a straight face , as our 1,500 + person sail ship is but one of seven or so they ’ll see this week ) , and is quite undeveloped congener to Cozumel , Cabo , Cancun , etc . The nearby sportfishing Greenwich Village , Mahahual , is home to only 600 or so , and there is n’t a immense hotel complex to be seen . The diving event here was in many ways nicer than Belize — particularly the fact that the dive site was only 10 minutes offshore . There was also a diverse assortment of coral , and so many fish that you soon stopped trying to look at all of them . I do n’t require this area to stay undisturbed like this for too many more years ; it ’s in spades worth a visit if you ’re search for a spot that ’s not the normal tourist - overrun address .
And now , I ’m off to mind to Dan Frakes ’ talk on the essential of maintaining your Mac . Just as Dan get , we ’ll be heading to sea for the tenacious sheet back to Tampa , where we ’ll arrive at 7 a.m. on Saturday .
