In especial , I use the Spotlight ’s Finder hunting more often than the full - louse up Spotlight lookup . As long as I ’m comparatively specific about what I ’m looking for , the results are unremarkably relatively quick and relevant .
But there ’s one thing I miss in the Finder ’s Spotlight results that ’s available in the full - blown glare hunt solution ( when you use the Show All selection ) , and that ’s the ability to do meaningful sorting and grouping of the results . In the large Spotlight Results window , you’re able to aggroup the event by Kind , Date , People or Flat List ( ungrouped ) , and then sort within those groups on Name , Date , Kind , or People . If you run a simple Finder search , though , such niceties are plain missing . you could switch to List view ( by press Command-2 , or View - > as List ) , which will get you sort by one of the column head , but you ca n’t sort and group using List view .
There is , however , a path to variety and mathematical group ( in a somewhat circumscribed thing ) the Finder ’s Spotlight search results . Run your hunt first , then quality View - > Show View Options ( or just press Command - J ) . This will land up the Finder ’s View Options dialog , but with some customized mise en scene for the search results window :
As you could see , you could aggroup by Kind or Date , and sort by Name , Date , or Kind . While this is n’t quite as potent as the group and sort options offer in the Spotlight hunting results windowpane , it ’s better than not being able-bodied to do anything at all with the result .
