By the time I received my copy of Adobe ’s Creative Suite 3 Design Premium , I had already read quite a few articles and reviews online , many of which mete out with the tons of new features in the rollout . I did n’t , however , see what I was largely interested in , which was discussion of “ existent - world ” public presentation and habit . The first thing I need to do before I even sat down to reallyuseCS3 was to gather some ( rather unscientific , but straightforward to me ) initial performance result .
To begin with , I wanted to see was how quick the applications would start up on my Mac . My test simple machine is a dual - core , 2.66GHz Mac Pro with the bloodline 250 GB severe drive and 3 GB of RAM . I clock the Adobe CS2 applications inauguration process after resume the Mac Pro . No other applications were running at the time of testing . I then give up the coating after mark the startup times and then relaunched them again , which , thanks to caches , more often than not cut the startup time of the software drastically . The issue were as follows , all times are in minute :

time in second .
Tests do by James Dempsey on a 2.66GHz threefold - substance Mac Pro with 3 GB of RAM and Mac OS X 10.4.9 .
As expected , the second launch of each app was much dissolute , sometimes by half the time . However , the CS2 Suite apps — other than Acrobat 8 — are not Universal Binary , so these time are of short value except for comparability with the CS3 applications .

So after admiring the cool - look upgrade box , reading through the rather impressiveWorkflow Guideincluded in the software and take hold of a moth-eaten drinking , I proceeded to completely remove all traces of Adobe CS2 from my computing machine . I run Adobe’sCS3Clean scriptto get rid of the Photoshop CS3 Beta ( and which did n’t really remove much of anything ) and then followed up by usingAppZapper , and then off the stay things AppZapper did n’t find manually . This consume approximately five min . I then carry on to add the full Design Premium Suite apps , which took 17 minutes . After registering the applications with the online energizing schema I re-start my Mac .
Launching the new CS3 lotion and time them brought some surprise on first launching , and pure bliss on the second . The times were as espouse :

plain , have all of the CS3 applications as Universal Binaries made a immense divergence . Even on first launch , the applications started up faster . On 2nd launch , it was simply arresting how tight they launch . What surprised me was that Acrobat Professional launch so much quicker than when I had it installed with the CS2 suite . have that Acrobat is the same version number in both retinue , I can only assume that some of the associated system file cabinet are improved in some way as to allow it to found quicker .
Of most interest to me were the two program I practice most often , and which were the worst performing artist on Intel - based Macs : InDesign and Illustrator . Both apps aremuchimproved in fastness . Illustrator , in particular , not only launches faster , but is much more responsive as well .
It was n’t all blush wine on my first day . As I distinguish upon reading one of the many PDFs that accompany the upgrade once you add the CS3 suite , you may not reinstall CS2 on that Mac . If you think you want to apply one of the older applications for some reason , make certain you do not cancel it . I would have liked to run Adobe GoLive CS2 again for the one site I build up with it , largely because I have n’t previously used Dreamweaver . I ’m certain somewhere in the install process this is mentioned , but it was n’t obvious enough for me . Icancompletely get rid of CS3 , reinstall CS2 and then raise again to CS3 , but that ’s more trouble for me than it is deserving .
All - in - all , the CS3 upgrade experience has been fast and easy and I ’m very proud of and excited to work with the fresh software . After a week and a one-half of doing so , I would highly recommend advance to anyone and have n’t come in across a single reason not to make the move .
