Our Verdict

fashionable and well - made case keeps Jawbone ’s bantam speaker secure and sounding bang-up .

There ’s a sight of gear out there for your Apple devices , but how do you bed which are deserving your time and what ’s not worth your money ? In our Gear We Love column , Macworld ’s editor in chief tell you about the products we ’re personally using — and have a go at it .

Most of the stuff we cover in “ Gear We Love ” are accouterment , but at times we ’re excited about an accessoryforan accessory . That ’s the case — no pun specify — with this calendar week ’s item , WaterField Designs ’ $ 49CitySlicker for the Jawbone Mini Jambox . As its name connote , the CitySlicker for Mini Jambox is a variant of WaterField ’s excellentCitySlicker MacBook Casethat ’s been size down to check Jawbone ’s nifty Mini Jambox Bluetooth speaker .

The Mini Jambox has become one of my favourite Bluetooth speakers for travel , thanks to its slim profile , surprisingly safe sound for the size of it , and great bombardment life . But though the Mini Jambox feels unanimous , it ’s not as furrowed asportable speakers specifically designed to take abuse , so I ’ve often wished for a case to keep it secure as it ’s bouncing around inside my suitcase or backpack . The CitySlicker for Mini Jambox gibe the bill .

Like the MacBook version , the CitySlicker for Mini Jambox fuse a lightly cushiony , ballistic - nylon pouch with a thick , of course tanned leather pother that snap close . The flap , available in smutty or brown , protects the top of the speaker and holds the utterer in the typesetter’s case , but it also gives the otherwise - homely CitySlicker a act of Indiana Jones flair . flabby fabric on the inside of the case keeps scratches at bay .

Loops on each close of the case lease you attach it to your old bag ( carabiner not include ) , and a zippered , stretchy - mesh pocket on the back has room for a couple lean cables , your earbuds , and even asmall stand for your iPhone . A larger nylon loop on the bottom of the slip makes it easy to give the case while you pull the speaker out — a welcome feature , because the CitySlicker fits the Mini Jambox like the proverbial glove .

The case contribute a bit of bulk to the Mini Jambox ( with the speaker system inwardly , the lawsuit is about 6.5 by 3 by 1.5 inches in size ) , and it obviously add some weight ( about three ounces ) . The CitySlicker is also what you might call a sumptuosity item , considering that it ’s a $ 49 typesetter’s case for a $ 150 loudspeaker . But the case fit absolutely , count large , hold some extras , and provides a good amount of protection . It ’s just what I want .
