As you ’ve probably heard , Firefox 2 descend out this week . I ’ve had the opportunity to download and use the web web browser a chip , discovering that Firefox is fundamentally as we report in the First Look we bring out back in July . There are quite a few new features ( though not all are seeable to the end user ) , along with an improved interface .

Since I compose that first look , of path , some things have changed . Here are a few update to points I made in the First Look :

I ’d also like to speak about tabs for a second . As take down in the First Look , tabs have gained their own “ confining ” icons , as well as a relocated “ cargo ” ikon that does n’t overwrite the site ’s image in the check . In gain , you could drop behind and send packing tablet to rearrange them . Finally , if you open more tabs than will go in the window ’s width , you ’ll get a “ chit ringlet ” ikon , as see in the paradigm at right , at each ending of the check legal community . Click either icon , and the tab bar will move leave or right to bring out the offscreen tabs .

Firefox 2 is a nice improvement on Firefox 1.5 . I accord , however , withthe judgment from Computerworld ’s Scott Finnie : I ’m not sure the change I see deservingness a 1.5 to 2.0 interlingual rendition number jump . That does n’t mean Firefox 2 is a unfit ware , just that it does n’t feel like there were enough substantive changes to deserve an addition into the 2.0 series . However , what has been done seems to have been done quite well , and Firefox 2 has substitute Firefox 1.5 on all my car — other than for testing World Wide Web sites , I do n’t personally feel the need to keep 1.5 around any longer .

EDITOR ’S NOTE : In a previous version of this article , I refer a Command - W glitch . After doing some more testing on my MacBook , it seems that this issue is specific to my Power Mac G5 . I ’m not sure what ’s cause it ( it might be lengthiness link up , or just the sheer amount of cruft built up on the G5 from year of testing hints ) , but Command - W works utterly on the MacBook . Sorry for the assumed alarm .
