First , let me say this . The iPhone attend incredible . It ’s a definite epitome faulting in the world of phones , PDAs , and iPods . Beyond that , though , I was terribly disappointed by this year’skeynote . We had a two - hour intro that fundamentally cover two devices ( and of those , the Apple TV had perhaps 15 moment of attending ) . So what did n’t we hear about ?
New Mac hardware : None . I mean , it ’s calledMacworld Expo , right ? So no mention at all of any newfangled Mac boxes ? The mini rest in its age state ? No raw ultra - laptop or tablet Mac ? Apple gave me no grounds at all to plead with the spouse to spend some money !
fresh displays : The iSight has been discontinued . month ago . That serve fire speculation about new Apple monitors with build up - in iSight cameras . But no . No new display . So if you want a raw monitor and iSight today , skillful luck — you’ll have to find an iSight in the dwindling retail stock , and hope that Apple does n’t turn around tomorrow and introduce newfangled iSight - integrate monitors .
New other computer hardware : There was a brand name - new Airport Extreme introduced today . It has anew form factor , like the Apple TV , and yet it did n’t even deserve a 10 - second mention in the tonic ? foreign .
A Leopard update : The vaunted missing feature article ? Still miss . Ship date ? Still unspecified as “ Spring 2007 . ” Progress toward ship date ? Unknown . descend on , Steve , could n’t you have flatten at least a time or two on Leopard ?
iLife ’ 07 : Not a peep . It seems the next variation will in all likelihood be liberate with ( and maybe trust on feature in ) Leopard .
iWork ’ 07 : Steve ’s tonic featured some slap-up new Keynote core which are clearly not in my written matter of iWork ’ 06 . Hence , iWork ’ 07 exists . But again , no acknowledgment of it . Beatles on iTunes : Steve ’s slides were loaded with Beatles references . Album covers , Beatles strain playing , etc . They were everywhere . Too plentiful to miss . And yet , no announcement was made about the Beatles collection being useable on the iTunes fund — was there some sort of last - minute legal hold - up ?
So while I ’m exhilarate , stunned , blow out away , and simply stunned by the iPhone ( and the Apple TV , to a less extent ) , I ca n’t help feeling disappointed about the keynote in worldwide . I was really hope for some telling new Macs to look at , and raw versions of the coating entourage we ’ve all come to trust on . It seems we ’ll now have to waitress for the inevitable Special Event for the sack of Leopard , iLife , and iWork … and maybe my highly - desired ultra - portable Mac !
