When I first start working on my own music album — and write about it at Macworld.com ’s Creative Notes blog — I wanted to make it an interactive experience , where readers can participate by asking questions , offering advice , and giving feedback . And in the 11 months that this project ’s been going on , that ’s exercise out really well .
Then I thought : what better way to get mass imply than to actually save a vocal with one of my reader ?
So that ’s what I ’m doing . I ’m cast the call out to all singer . I have already included many of my Mac - using player Friend from around North America for different parts of the labor . My remote crew includes a bass player in San Francisco , a drummer in New Jersey , and a guitar player in San Jose . There are also some limited guests that will be play on the record album too , but I ’m not ready to talk about that just yet .
The way I ’ve lick with musician to this percentage point has been to send them a WAV file of the demo . If it ’s something they liked , we would talk over ideas for the counselling of the song , possibly adding a breakdown , widen a verse or bring in a Greek chorus .
While I ’m making change to the medicine , the person I ’m work with Begin writing the lyrics . When I ’m done with the final euphony demo , I ’ll institutionalize that off and we ’ll take a listen to make trusted it matches our initial idea .
Then it ’s time to lie down the outspoken track . Once the vocals are done , I get a WAV file of just the song get off to me , and I add it to the demo . I ’ll take a hop out a mix and we ’ll take another listen .
Of of course , background vocals need to be done , which ask a separate track . That can be done with the first vocal take or subsequently on . From here , we evaluate the song , and , if it ’s where we want it to be , we start up tightening up the recordings .
Currently I have about 20 songs in various stages of closing ( medicine only ) , with about half in demo state . The music is pretty much unbent - ahead rock in the mineral vein of Velvet Revolver , AC / DC and Zakk Wylde . Good blues - based , fundament - tapping euphony . I ’ve got an acoustical ballad type Sung dynasty , right up to a heavy Riffian that I tuned down to Bb . There ’s a fiddling something for everyone in there .
So , what is it you will call for to chip in to the task ? A vocalization that fit with the musical style that I ’m writing the music for and a way to record your vocals and place to me to plug into the song .
While this is my personal task , I will be compose about our experience collaborating on the birdcall forMacworld . It does n’t matter to me if you ’re in a band and just want to take a pause and shape on this with me or if this is your first fourth dimension singing . I ’m looking for secure words and vocals .
