Bloomberg ’s latest reporthas some regretful news for Apple customer in the EU : You ’ll neglect out on some of the best new feature of iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia in 2024 ( and perhaps longer ) .
Apple Intelligence , iPhone Mirroring to Mac , and SharePlay Screen Sharing wo n’t be useable in the EU in 2024 . Apple blame the DMA and its interoperability essential . In a statement , Apple enunciate :
We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our production in ways that jeopardy user concealment and data security .
Apple’sstatement to the Financial Timeswas more or less different :
Due to the regulatory uncertainness bring about by the Digital Markets Act , we do not believe that we will be capable to twine out three of these [ new ] feature — iPhone Mirroring , SharePlay Screen share-out enhancement , and Apple Intelligence — to our EU user this year .
That does n’t mean the EU wo n’t ever get those features ; Apple only says not this class as it work through “ precariousness . ” It may just take time for the EU regulative agency to say if the features run afoul of the DMA in their current form or not , and if not , what Apple would have to do to make them compliant while still protect exploiter privacy and security .
Apple Intelligence was only ever going to support American English this twelvemonth anyway , with other languages coming in 2025 and beyond . That would somewhat limit its effectiveness in the EU to begin with , but feature like iPhone Mirroring to Mac would have been useful to everyone regardless of language .
