The Center for Environmental Health on Monday say that it has break Apple 60 - days legal bill — a step required by California law before a lawsuit is launched . The action at law is based on the report by environmental group Greenpeace , release earlier today , that found hazardous fabric in Apple ’s iPhone .
The Greenpeace test reveal chemical substance that included “ phthalates ” in the vinyl plastic headphone wiring at levels that are prohibited in youthful children ’s toys in San Francisco and the European Union ( EU ) .
Under California ’s Proposition 65 jurisprudence , products that can expose consumers to phthaltes or other chemicals that are procreative toxins or carcinogen must carry a admonition label , according to the Center for Environmental Health .
“ There is no ground to have these potentially hazardous chemical in iPhones ” said Michael Green , Executive Director of Center for Environmental Health . “ We look Apple to redevelop their product to make them safer from cradle to grave , so they do n’t flummox a threat to consumers , workers or the environment . ”
Apple representative were not immediately available for gossip on the potential lawsuit or the Greenpeace account .
The Center for Environmental Health want Apple to clearly label the iPhone order that it contains phthaltes , but at long last it wants the fellowship to get rid of them altogether .
“ In general what we prove to do is encourage the manufacturers through a negotiated settlement to reduce the usage of these chemicals , ” Caroline Cox , a spokeswoman for the Center for Environmental Health , told Macworld . “ That would be our goal with Apple . ”
Cox said her organization has had no communication with Apple yet .
