Talks between chipmaker Intel Corp. and Apple Computer have been job on for many eld . But with Apple ’s move into novel markets like the iPod , analyst are not so quick to can the rumour talks this time .

“ While nobody can predict what Apple would do , it would n’t surprise me if discussions are run short on between the two companies for something other than electronic computer , ” Jupiter Analyst , Joe Wilcox , told MacCentral .

Technology Business Research psychoanalyst , Tim Deal agrees . “ I am sceptical . But if there are [ talks ] , then it is potential for reasons much more innocuous than many are presume . ”

It is these new markets that analyst are looking to when talking about an Apple / Intel partnership . After all , Intel does more than just make microcomputer processors , it also makes processors for graphics , networking , wireless , flash retention and others .

“ I think it is unlikely that it ’s for a Mac mainframe , unless Apple is consider integrating Intel - based mainframe in its Mac Mini line , ” said Deal . “ Is it possible that succeeding iPod will have PDA functionality ? ”

Having the Mac type O fly the coop on an Intel - based mainframe would take more time and resources than Apple may be willing to give , not to mention the transition developers would have to make .

If the speculation were true , what would these talk intend for Apple ’s longtime family relationship with IBM , the maker of its new Power PC G5 flake ? Not much , consort to both analysts .

“ company often apply multiple chip providers for dissimilar products , ” said Wilcox . “ Microsoft , for case , patronize Intel C.P.U. in computers , but turned to IBM CPU to power the Xbox . ”

“ I consider the core of Apple ’s Mac line will always be the IBM PowerPC C.P.U. , ” said Deal . “ I think there is little threat to this longstanding relationship . ”
