One of my favourite things about the Web is how it ’s overturn the share-out of images . I apply aFlickr accountto on a regular basis situation range on the Web to portion out with friends and house . But a Web browser app is n’t exactly the best user interface for bet at movie . sure as shooting , image sites have come up with some cagy means to meliorate the experience beyond the standard scroll - and - chatter approach ; site like Flickr propose clever slide - show displays , for example . But anyone who ’s used iPhoto ’s slide - show feature article know that it ’s a darn sight better than scrolling through images on Flickr .
On Wednesday , I got a prevue of a new utility , available as a Safari - only beta edition ( a Windows version is approaching ) , that lets you transform any set of image search - railway locomotive results , or galleries on Flickr , Facebook , orPhotoBucket , into a gorgeous full - screen slideshow like what you ’d expect from iPhoto or Front Row .
The utility is calledPicLens , fromCoolIris . After you install it , when you move your mouse over an trope on any of the six internet site I mentioned , a small image appear that indicates it ’s a slideshow - equal to page :
tap the ikon and the image zooms to full concealment . In the background , PicLens is pre - loading the next few full - resolution image , so there ’s no delay when you move to the next image . Press the play button and the slideshow will go on its own , moving through all the images on the page .
( This variant only displays range of a function on a undivided page , but I ’d bet that future versions will display image from multiple page . )
Although it ’s a beta with a few queerness , PicLens chance upon me as a great idea . It integrates perfectly with Safari and make a whole caboodle of sentiency , particularly if you drop a bunch of meter viewing photos on Flickr . I ’m looking forrad to seeing where CoolIris goes with PicLens from here .
